Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you don’t need a referral to book an appointment.

Are Speech Pathology services covered under Private Health Insurance?

Yes, speech pathology services are covered by many health funds, but please check with your fund to see if your level of cover entitles you to rebates.

Are Speech Pathology services covered by Medicare?

Yes, your GP will determine if your child is entitled to a Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) which allows you to claim a Medicare rebate for up to 5 sessions per 12 months. Please bring this CDM referral form along to your child’s therapy session. CDMs can only be used on therapy sessions, not for assessments.

Do you see NDIS clients?

We do, however we only see self and plan-managed NDIS clients.

Is The Sydney Speech Team Neurodiversity Affirming in their practises?

Yes, we are! We use a strengths-based model, helping our clients to advocate for themselves. We are also passionate about Natural Language Acquisition and helping support our Gestalt Language Processors through the different NLA stages.

Is your team trained in Orofacial Myology?

Yes, both Jess and Cordelia are certified Orofacial Myologists and offer both assessment and therapy for oral dysfunction.

Do you use an evidence-based, systematic synthetic phonics approach to your literacy therapy?

Yes, we do. We use a battery of criterion-referenced and standardised assessments to assess all literacy clients. We are all trained in multiple, evidence-based systematic synthetic phonic programs which all promoted by SPELD AUS and NSW.

Do you use behavioural approaches to feeding therapy?

No, as we’re a Neurodivergent-Affirming clinic, we do not use any behavioural approaches in any of our therapies with our ND kids. Our approaches to feeding therapy are informed by the responsive feeding framework.

Do you treat Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)?

Absolutely. Our therapists are dedicated to supporting children with CAS. They are trained in various evidence-based programs, including DTTC and ReST, and we are also trained in PROMPT. The specific approach for your child will be tailored based on their individual needs.
